Watch the Training Grow With the Puppy

The course begins with short, simple sessions designed for a puppy who knows very little. As Bingley becomes more confident and begins to understand the training process, the sessions change. You will watch us move from easier environments to more distracting ones. You will see familiar skills practiced in new places and learn why a behavior that looks solid inside the house may seem to disappear in the yard.
 

You will also see how one skill supports another. Attention helps with leash walking. Impulse control supports door manners. A clear release word helps with stay. Engagement and communication form the foundation for nearly everything else. By watching the entire progression, you can see how training is built over time instead of treating each behavior as a separate trick on a checklist.
 

Learn to Read the Puppy in Front of You

Although you will be following Bingley’s journey, this course is not meant to suggest that every puppy should progress at exactly the same speed or respond in exactly the same way.

Your puppy may learn some things more quickly and need more time with others. Your puppy may be more cautious, more excitable, more independent, more food motivated, or more easily distracted than Bingley. To help you see how training can differ between puppies, I have also included selected sessions featuring Blue and Emmi. Their different personalities and responses provide additional examples of how the same general training principles may need to be adjusted for the individual puppy. The goal is not to make your puppy train exactly like Bingley. The goal is to help you understand what you are seeing so you can make thoughtful adjustments for the puppy standing in front of you.
 

Train the puppy in front of you.

The sessions are intentionally woven into everyday life and are often completed around mealtimes, using some of the puppy’s food as training rewards. Puppies do not need exhausting, hour-long lessons. They benefit from brief, purposeful practice that fits their age, attention span, and current ability. Watching three sessions each day allows you to see what can change between morning and evening. Bingley may struggle during one session and show greater understanding in the next. On another day, he may be too tired or distracted to perform something that went well earlier. This gives you a much more honest understanding of progress. Learning is not always a straight line, but that does not mean it is not happening.
 

By following the complete journey, you will learn how to:

• Recognize confusion, distraction, fatigue, frustration, and overexcitement

• Decide when to continue, simplify, change the environment, or stop

This course gives you more than a list of exercises. It helps you become a more observant, flexible, and effective trainer for your own puppy.

By the End of the Journey

In 30 days, your puppy will not be a finished adult dog, and no responsible course should promise that. Your puppy will still be growing, developing, and learning how to use familiar skills in new situations. What you can build during this first month is a powerful foundation. By following the journey and practicing with your own puppy, you can establish communication, introduce the essential skills needed for everyday life, develop productive routines, and begin building a relationship in which your puppy understands how to learn from you.

Just as importantly, you can become a more observant and adaptable trainer. Instead of assuming your puppy is stubborn or that training has failed, you will learn to recognize what may be getting in the way and make informed adjustments that help your puppy continue progressing. The goal is not perfection in 30 days. The goal is to begin your life together with communication, practical skills, realistic expectations, and a foundation you can continue building for years to come.

Meet Your Guide

I’m Sarah Cochran, and I created The Trainable Puppy™ to help puppy owners understand the puppy standing in front of them instead of feeling defeated when a rigid training plan does not unfold perfectly. Throughout this course, I do not simply tell you what Bingley is doing. I explain what I am observing, what I believe his behavior is communicating, and how that information shapes my next decision. My goal is to help you see training differently so you can approach your own puppy with purpose, patience, and flexibility.

You will see the successes, the mistakes, the distractions, and the adjustments. Most importantly, you will learn how to work with the puppy in front of you.
